A hearty soup made in the crock-pot. Works well with a left over ham bone from a boiled dinner. Always better the next day as it naturally thickens. This dish freezes well.

Split Pea with Ham Soup

A hearty soup made in the crock-pot. Works well with a left over ham bone from a boiled dinner. Always better the next day as it naturally thickens. This dish freezes well.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound split peas rinsed
  • 2 quarts water
  • 1 pound ham cubed
  • 1 cup celery chopped
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 3 slices bacon raw, diced
  • 3 carrots sliced
  • 2 teaspoons seasoning salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Directions:

  1. Mix all ingredients together in crock pot and cook on high 5-6 hrs or on low 10-12 hours until peas are dissolved and carrots are tender.

    I agree Lisa, with the ham you could definitely use less salt or even omit it all together. Thank you for visiting, I hope you enjoyed the site and the recipes.

    I cut the salt in half and use 2 teas. dried thyme and a bay leaf. I also add 1c. of diced carrots.
