Apple SPAM Turnovers

I know weird, right? Oh no, these little gems have everything a girl could ask for. They are sweet, salty, cheesy, meaty, doughy, chewy and everything in between. Biting into one of these is sure to set off a party in your mouth.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup apple peeled, diced
  • 3/4 cup sugar granulated
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup SPAM diced
  • 2 tablespoons corn starch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 sheet puff pastry thaw if frozen
  • 4 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 5 teaspoons milk divided

Directions:

  1. Heat oven to 350F.
  2. In medium saucepan, mix apple, granulated sugar, brown sugar and water.
  3. Bring to a low boil over medium heat.
  4. Remove from heat; mix in SPAM, raisins, cornstarch and vanilla.
  5. Return to a boil over medium heat; boil until thickened.
  6. Remove from heat; cool 10 minutes.
  7. On a lightly floured surface, cut puff pastry into 9 3×3-inch squares.
  8. Spread a spoonful of cream cheese in the center of each square.
  9. Add a spoonful of cooled filling to the center of each square.
  10. Fold each square of dough to form a triangle, lightly pinching the edges closed.
  11. Bake on a cookie sheet for 12 minutes or until dough is golden brown.
  12. To make icing, mix powdered sugar with one teaspoon of milk at a time until desired consistency.
  13. Drizzle hot turnovers with icing, cool 10 minutes on cookie sheet before serving.
  14. Use caution as filling may be hot.
