Baked Ziti

An easy alternative to lasagna, throw it all in a baking dish and you’re done. This dish freezes well wrapped or vacuum sealed in individual portions.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ziti pasta dry
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 48 ounces spaghetti sauce
  • 1 cup mushrooms sliced
  • 1/2 pound provolone cheese sliced
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup cottage cheese small curd
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese shredded

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil.
  3. Add ziti pasta, and cook until al dente, about 8 minutes; drain.
  4. In a large skillet, brown onion and ground beef over medium heat.
  5. Add spaghetti sauce and mushrooms, and simmer 15 minutes.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the sour cream and cottage cheese together until blended.
  7. Butter a 9×13 inch baking or casserole dish.
  8. Layer in the baking dish 1/2 of the cooked ziti.
  9. Pour 1/2 of the meat sauce mixture over the ziti.
  10. Lay the provolone cheese slices over the meat sauce.
  11. Spread the sour cream/cottage cheese mixture over the provolone slices.
  12. Spread the remaining ziti, and top with the remaining meat sauce mixture.
  13. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  14. Bake for 30 minutes, or until cheeses are melted and top starts to brown.
