Dough Boys

Yet another one of my childhood memories. We use to have these every Sunday evening when I was a child growing up in Rhode Island.

Ingredients:

  • 12 dinner roll dough balls frozen
  • vegetable oil for frying
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • flour for handling the dough

Directions:

  1. Spray a muffin pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Place one ball of dough in each muffin cup.
  3. Spray a piece of plastic wrap with cooking spray.
  4. Make sure plastic wrap is large enough to cover muffin pan loosely.
  5. Place plastic wrap over muffin pan with the cooking spray side down over the dough balls.
  6. Let rise 3-5 hours or until dough doubles in size.
  7. Heat 1/2 inch of oil in skillet to 325F.
  8. With floured hands take one ball of dough and stretch it out to about the size of a small saucer. Be careful not to knead the dough as you want the air to remain in it.
  9. Fry one at a time in the oil, turning once until golden brown.
  10. Drain on paper towel lined plate, pat excess oil off the top with a paper towel.
  11. Spread lightly with butter and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
  12. Serve immediately.
