I'm certain the only way I have ever made chili was in the Crock-Pot.  I might have started with a recipe I got in 8th grade Home Economics class.  Wait, did they have Crock-Pots back then?  I've fine tuned this simple recipe over the past 30+ years and I have never made chili with any bean other than baked beans.  Simply because I just don't like any other beans.  You would be surprised, it's actually very good.
